American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) strongly condemns the serious acts of violence that took place on June 5 in Bagua, in northern Peru, which have caused several deaths .
According to information received, at least 30 people have died and others have been wounded, including indigenous leaders and members of the security forces as a result of an operation by the National Police of Peru to break the lock that kept indigenous groups on the access road to the city of Bagua. The protest was organized by indigenous peoples in the Peruvian Amazon, following the adoption of legislative decrees that affect the right of ownership over their lands and territories. The Commission reminds the State of its duty of prosecuting these acts of violence and compensated.
The information received indicates that the centers of health care in Bagua were not trained to assist the large number of people injured.

The Commission recalls that Article 27 of the Convention Human Rights Advisory Opinion 9 / 87 of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights lists the rights that can not be suspended, inter alia, the right to life, personal integrity and judicial guarantees essential for the protection of these rights .
